The story of Bjärebygden’s tribute to Birgit Nilsson
Birgit Nilsson, soprano, never lost touch with her origins. Throughout her life on the world opera stages, she always returned to the parents’ home, the farm in Västra Karup on the Bjäre Peninsula, today Birgit Nilsson Museum.
With local forces, a tribute concert was arranged here in 2018 when Birgit would have turned 100 years old. The Celebration Concert was intended as a one-time event. But strengthened by the 100th anniversary, the countryside took hold again the following year.
This new documentary depicts how the people of Bjäre together arrange a second Celebration Concert. Meet the florist, the choir leader, the farmer, the sports association, the choristers and the sign makers, all with the goal of making the concert a recurring highlight on the Bjäre Peninsula.
We also get an insight into the annual Masterclass that has been held at the museum for many years. The film also contains a number of archive clips with Birgit Nilsson, which have never before been shown in public.
The film premiered on June 28th 2020 on Musik i Syd Channel in collaboration with Birgit Nilsson Museum’s 10-year anniversary and season opening.
