CONCERT Scania Consort
Early music by newly formed ensemble
Scania Consort is a newly formed Swedish ensemble featuring five of the Nordic region’s foremost practitioners of early music and headlined by soprano Maria Keohane. Maria is backed by Fredrik From and Hannah Tibell on the baroque violin, Judith-Maria Blomsterberg on the baroque cello and Fredrik Bock on the lute, the theorbo and the baroque guitar. Maria and the musicians are active across Europe in their everyday work – one day playing a concert in Musikverein in Vienna, the next day performing at an opera house in Copenhagen and the following day in a small church in deepest Småland in Sweden.
The concert was part of Musik i Syd’s event organiser development project called Musikriket (Musical Kingdom). Musikriket is an event organiser development method in which a municipality, in collaboration with Musik i Syd, ensures that people are given access in a local setting to the best music, so that they do not have to go to a city to experience music featuring professional musicians.
